A VERY simple thing you can do to reduce your footprint!

I just experienced the Alchemy Conference in Los Angeles and it was so powerful! I have transformed many time over in just three days and way too much to blog about here. What I want to share now is one simple, practical thing I thought of that we can all do to begin to change one of the habits that causes so much waste and pollution in our environment. Throughout the day how many of us use “disposable” cups, plastic ware, grocery bags and take out containers? I have been mostly good about using reusable bags for my groceries, but I am guilty of getting a regular Starbucks drink and taking my food home in (yikes) Styrofoam take-out containers. What if, instead of just following the insanity of disposables simply because that's "the way it is", on our daily travels we carried a little bag with the following things:

Travel Mug

A silverware(or bamboo ware) set

Plenty of cloth grocery bags

Snacks and/or a lunch

A small set of Tupperware

I know it seems like a lot, but it really is only a small bag and just think of all the trash you would take out of the cycle!! Our disposable habit must shift to make a real difference in the world and no new habit is easy or even comfortable at first. However it is shown that if you can successfully repeat any action for 30 days it will become a habit and be as natural as brushing you teeth in the morning. SO what do you say? Are you in? Simply cut and paste the text below and place it in TWO places, one by your front door, and one by your bathroom mirror (so you don’t have the excuse of only seeing the reminder on you way out the door and not having time to get your kit together).

I am so excited to commit to this new habit!! Please share your experience with me as we all endeavor to take better care of our Home Planet!

Much love and inspiration,

Anah aka Hoopalicious

Remember and Rejoice!!

Do you have your travel mug?

Do you have your cloth grocery bags?

Do you have a fork, spoon and a knife?

Do you have snacks and/or a lunch?

Do you have your Tupperware?

Please help find Elias Sorokin

PDF of flyer for printing: Elias poster smaller

FROM HIS BUSINESS PARTNER ANDREA SPRATT
Tue July 28th, 2009:
ELIAS SOROKIN MISSING

DOB July 5, 1980, just had his 29th birthday

Plate number 8H92932 (2007 Toyota Tacoma, 4D Pickup with shell, color gold/beige)

Last seen 7/20 monday in Santa Cruz with a friend James at 11:15pm on his way to meet another friend (whom no one knows?) who had been delaying the meeting to a later and later time. This person is key we need to find out who he is! We think Elias met with him around midnight – his last incoming calls were at 12;15 and 12;12 on Monday night, but through an unidentified number.

Previous to that he was with a friend JP in Oakland at 9:30pm about to leave for santa cruz.

He had texted his business partner Andrea Spratt at 8pm 7/20 on Monday explaining he would be back in Los Angeles at the house/studio in the am, he would drive straight through the night… Andrea was expecting him because of a shoot that was happening for their company KUCOON designs the following day. Elias tried his best to follow through on his commitments.

Additional information can be found on the FaceBook group.

Please do not contact the police for any additional information as they are getting bogged down with calls and it is hindering their search efforts. If you have any information please email anonymously:

eliassorokin.info@gmail.com

And please, help his friends and family by visualizing Elias home and well.

Thank You,

Friend of Elias, Anah

an old writing assignment I just found...

Thank the GODS that I found this.. It totally sums up the loop I'm in and kind of shocked me into action..

Here it is:

My endless desire for perfection often leads me to complete paralysis rather than brilliance. Using this writing assignment as an example, here I sit struggling with the exact perfect subject to write about, the exact perfect way to write about it, leading me inevitably to a late assignment about, essentially, nothing. I could have chosen my travels around the world, my amazing soul mate, my obsession with hula hooping, or my extensive lucid dreaming. Instead I find myself so fascinated by my own inertia and extreme dedication to perfection that I am left with nothing else on the forefront of my mind than this. Well, maybe this is square one, the first step and the elephant that needed to be shooed from the room before I can move on to the meat of what I have to say. Or maybe not. Maybe the desperation for perfection has been the central player in my world. In itself acquiring an overblown sense of importance as to eclipse all other passions. Strange isn’t it, the ephemeral and basically useless notion of perfection, superseding all of my other very real and meaningful artistic talents and pursuits? Come to think about it, this is the perfect subject to write about. It is the main thing that blocks me most of the time and my blocks (or more accurately, the attempt to abolish my blocks) are what take up a large majority of my mental time and energy. What if I was to spend more of that time actually DOING some of the things that I am so worried about being blocked in? Would there cease to be a block at all? Amazing how our habitual patterns of mind junk become so a part of the tapestry of ones existence that it seems normal, if not even necessary or unavoidable? Meanwhile it is exactly this that puts the foot in the mouth of our own desired experience of life. Well, no longer, I say! Here I go, writing about nothing just to write about SOMETHING, imperfect as it may be and pointless as it seems, at least it is a few tracks away form the effortless stream of habitual chatter and paralyzing banter between the many different voices vying for supremacy in my head. And yes, it is less than 500 words, but maybe there needs to be some quantifiable evidence of imperfection to cement the new track and one up the little neurotic voice in my head that says, “Not good enough! Wrong and inferior! Don’t show anyone!” So take that, little voice! I just wrote not enough words about NOTHING! And I’m even going to post it for everyone to see, so there.

Yeeeoowza!! I am so stoked! my video won for favorite hoop video of the Year! At hoop camp this past year I got the zany idea to "cover" Hoop Camp disguised as an uptight news reporter, Patricia Louac. Everyone was really caught off guard and I was really annoying... but it made for a funny video and it seems that everybody got that the point was humor and poking fun at news reporters(they always ask the silliest questions!). A big thanks to my beloved, Franck for the awesome editing job and my mom, Fran for the videography. and now... drum roll please....here it is in all it's glory....the video that won me a coveted Hoopie Award...

A recipe for a GREAT day

In my never ending quest for transformation, uplift-meant and getting off my ass, I am always looking for those things that add to the process or, conversely, shoot me in the spiritual foot. Most recently I have discovered that doing yoga every morning(without fail!!) really sets my day up for success. I know it isn't rocket science... when we dedicate to a practice, move our bodies and are proud of ourselves we just FEEL better right? Well, believe it or not I have always been challenged with laziness and a kind of "head-in-the clouds-Itous". When left to it's own devises, my body wants to sleep and dream fantastical dreams for 12 hours and be awake for 12 hours. I would then wake up groggy and feeling guilty that I slept so long. The problem is my dreams were always more pleasurable, more real and just plain more FUN than my waking reality. I realized I was more excited to go to sleep(oooh dream time.. yay!) than to wake up.. yikes! It came down to a choice. Do I want to live in THIS world or my dream world? I needed something to wake me up, anchor me in the waking world and push me through the initial laziness of the morning. Here is the magic formula I have found that has had me sailing though my days with enthusiasm, motivation and ~gasp~ a strong work ethic:

  • Wake up between 7 and 8:30(don't want to go the other way and be TOO militant)
  • Drink some lukewarm water and take some probiotics to wake up the digestive system
  • Make a big cup of Yerba mate tea
  • Head into my Yoga/meditation room(more on how to create a sacred corner later)
  • sit in front of my altar, light a candle and burn some sage.
  • breathe.
  • accept that in order to thrive, I must exert myself
  • recognize that moving your body and doing things feels GOOD(i know sounds silly, but for a natural procrastinator.. HUGE)
  • pull an animal card, rune or throw the i-ching(more on divination devices later)
  • Drink my tea while taking in the beauty of my altar, the sunshine and anything else in my environment that feels good.
  • Get down to yoga
  • remind myself again that it feels good to use my body
  • imagine all my joints flowing open and my body becoming ever more limber and flexible
  • Do at least 20 minutes of yoga(pushing for more like an hour)
  • Sit again and take in the yumminess I have created and congratulate myself for keeping a promise.
  • Take a shower, eat breakfast and jump into my day!!
Seriously, this one commitment, to do yoga and take a small amount of time for myself EVERY morning no matter what(even if it is only 10 minutes), has made a HUGE difference... In the way I feel, the quality of the work i do and the amount of work I get done. At the end of the day, I feel satisfied, complete and in love. Now, do i still have "moments" of grumbling or being lazy.. sure, but there are far less and I am much quicker to move through them when they do occur.

Alright then.. I am off to power out my day!!

hoopiness to you and yours and see you in the circle sooon!

What do you most want to learn??

Greetings everyone!!

As I am getting ready for a whole new schedule of classes I find myself wondering.. Am I really offering what hoopers most want to learn? I would love to hear from you about what draws you, inspires you or pushes your buttons! What is it that you most want offered to enhance your hoop practice? How can I better serve your needs as individuals and as a community? More Jams? More specialty classes? more?????

Looking forward to a VERY satisfying 2009!

Whew~ 2008 was tough wasn’t it? With crazy fluctuating gas prices, the presidential election, a steady stream of war news and economic freak-outs it was a challenge to remain calm, collected and joyful. This year there continues to be a high degree of fear surrounding the economy. They say that in times like these the “luxury” items are the first to go, like massage, bacon and yes… hooping. Obviously this has providers of said luxury items pretty nervous. I have chosen instead to view the economic climate and its repercussions as an opportunity.

Our community is one who is concerned with the way the world works. There is much talk of challenging the social norm, reforming outdated systems(such as money) and creating a better, more sustainable world built on more friendly and cooperate foundations. This is an opportunity to put into action our highest ideals.

Bartering and Gifting

This is not a new idea. Many cultures swap services for most of their needs. In the current economic situation why limit ourselves to the use of cash as the only way to not only fulfill our needs and wants but as a measure of our success? I propose that we use this as a challenge to see how much of our daily wants and needs we can fulfill from simple human exchange. I am opening Hoop Revolution up to satisfy the needs of the hooping community with out the messy transaction of cash. Sure I will still need some cash to pay bills and such, but if you can’t afford it, I still want you to have hooping and as much pleasure as possible! Hoop Revolution has many needs that I know you can fulfill! Check the website: http://www.hooprevolution.com/hooprevolution for a list of wants and needs as well as a list of services and items I have for barter. In addition I am looking for opportunities both as a business and as an individual to gift freely and regularly with no trade whatsoever. The concept of gifting goes one step beyond barter. If we all give for the pleasure of giving, everyone gets gifted at one time or another and it always comes back, even if not from the original source.

Together we can remain empowered and continue to fill our lives with the joy we so richly deserve regardless of how much money we have in the bank! And the funny thing is, if you know the law of attraction, the more rich and joyous we feel, the more money will come flowing back into our lives, even if we no longer need it. AH, the delicious paradox that is life!
